Question
What kind of paint to use on shower walls...
I want to paint my shower walls, how do I prepare the surface and what kind of paint do I use.

No type of paint will adhere to shower walls unless the surface is properly prepared. Shower walls should be scoured with sandpaper prior to application. This will provide a tooth for the primer and paint to adhere to and will help to promote a longer-lasting finish. Once the stalls have been abraded, they require a base coat of acrylic latex primer. Without this base coat, the painted finish will eventually shed. Hope this helps!

Question
how do you remove old tub caulking?

The first step is to soften the caulk by applying caulk remover. Next, slice through the softened caulk using a utility knife with a fresh blade. You may need to pull the material from the joint with a pair of needle-nose pliers. The final preparation step is to clean the surface and remove mildew. Use a non-ammoniated bath cleaner to remove soap scum. Do not use an ammoniated cleaner prior to applying bleach mixed together, they give off poisonous fumes. Kill any mildew on the surfaces using a solution of 1/3 cup bleach to 1 gal. of water. Use a paintbrush or foam brush Scrub the area with a brush or plastic pad, rinse, then dry the surfaces with a clean rag. Good luck!

Determining whether it would be possible to add a shower stall would require an assessment of your bathroom by an installation professional. For more information on our Bathroom Renovation Services please visit http://www.homedepot.ca/installation-services/bathroom-renovation-services

How do I refinish a bathtub?
My bathtub is not cast iron. It's in good shape, but the finish is dull. Is there a way to refinish the bathtub so that it looks new again.

For fixtures that can be restored, homeowners can either do the refinishing themselves or hire a pro. In either case, the basic steps involve a process of cleaning, sanding, priming, painting and sealing the fixture. Please note, some fixtures are clearly beyond saving and should be replaced.
Get a new porcelain enamel finish on it. This process is often called re-glazing or re-finishing. We do not recommend this method, as it tends, in our opinion, not to last. The best thing you could do for a long term stand-point is to have your tub replaced with a new, white acrylic tub. Go to your local Home Depot and talk to the experts for more information.

Question
Hi there, is it possible to paint existing bathroom fixtures?
We have a great whirlpool bath but it is the ugliest 'dusty rose' - straight out of the '80s! Can we paint it? And if so, can you tell me what type of paint we should use?
