Questions & Answers for Honeywell Honeywell 5-2 Day Programmable Baseboard Thermostat

Question
The program won't stay
I bought 3 units and they all have troubles keeping the programs. For example, when the time of day is calling for program 1, the thermostat is displaying program 2 and not heating the room. The 4 program setting doesn't work at all. I called Honeywell and the fellow told me to take all the units back to Home Depot, a huge waste of time. He said the units must have been from a "bad batch". A bad batch, did I buy bananas???

Has anyone else had similar problems?

I was curious if it was just me who had this problem but, no, what everyone is describing is basically true. Installs easy but the programming (or automatic) feature doesn't work.

So, I originally bought two of them. It appeared that one didn't work. Talked to Honeywell about the problem on the phone but they just ran me through the exact same things that the instruction book told me to do. Took the non-working unit back to Home Depot but the replacement didn't work as well. And now the unit that I thought was working doesn't seem to work now either.

I'm kind of surprised that this problem has been around for over six months but they are still on the market.

I am having exactly the same problem with both thermostats I purchased (I bought 4 and have tried two). I'm sure I don't have my receipt any more. Bad batch? How ridiculous.

I bought 8 and they all go off program on the weekends. They work perfectly M-F but then get erratic during the S&S program... consistently!

Hello,
I have not heard of similar issues. If you have already spoken with tech support I would take the units back to Home Depot, get an exchange and re-install the new ones with the help of tech support.

No. Oil furnaces are set up for 12 volt termostats. The hot water baseboard heaters are supplied with hot water from the oil or electric furnace which is regulated with a 12 volt themostat.

Question
Switch to "fan" mode of control?
I have this thermostat controlling a "window heater" unit that includes a fan. The manual states that it is possible to switch the thermostat to conventional control mode so that the fan remains on for 5 minutes instead of switching on/off frequently. I have tried following the steps for switching the mode: pressing and holding the 'min' button, activate the reset pinhole switch, then when the display goes blank, releasing the pin, and releasing the 'min' button. The thermostat's display does not go blank in my case. Fan indicator does not come on.

I have contacted Honeywell, and they were able to walk me through setting the thermostat's cycle rate. The steps -- as best I could capture them -- are as follows:
- Hit 'Ret' to return to the regular display.
- Insert and hold in place a paperclip to keep the reset switch activated.
- Press and hold; then keep repeatedly pressing the 'Mode' button. After a few seconds it will begin cycling through the various settings. Get to the setting that says 'Cycle Mode'. Use the Temp '^' (up) button to toggle from 'Std' to 'Fan'.
- Release the paperclip
- Hit 'Ret'
The display should now have 'Fan' indicator to the left of temperature reading.

No, this thermostat is to be used with baseboard heating. The Honeywell RTH4300 would be a good choice for central heating/cooling.
