This QuietZone is designed for interior partitions to reduce noise where no R-value is required. As such Owens Corning does not track this number. If your application requires an R-value, such as an exterior wall or attic, then it is recommended to use Pink Fiberglas. I hope this helps.

When installing QuietZone® insulation near heat emitting devices, the proper clearances must be respected as outlined in our QuietZone brochure. A 200 Amp cable that is properly insulated with approved skin should not emit any heat and, therefore, QuietZone® can be installed around it. I would need to know which insulation you are looking for since there are variations based on R value/ bag vs loosefill?

All exterior walls of homes, garages and sheds require an R value. Quietzone is an acoustical insulation without R value. Please use the appropriate thickness to fill the cavity and choose the R value that fits the cavity and your needs: 2x4 wood studs need 3.5" R12 or R14 batts for example.

Acoustical testing done at National Research Council of Canada laboratories show that the type of insulation does not make a difference for sound proofing; but it is important to fill the cavity, and to install resilient channels over wood studs to break the path of sound from drywall to studs. It is also important to choose the proper width of insulation to fit between the studs; steel studs are a little wider than wood studs and require 16" or 24" on centre to fill the space between studs; wood studs are full and require 15" or 23" on centre to fill the space between studs. All of our fiberglass insulation meet Canadian standards for fungus resistance. All of our fiberglass insulation products are tested for indoor air quality. Quietzone acoustical batts are packaged so you will need less bags to complete the job.
