Questions & Answers for Moen Short Toilet Fill Valve

Question
Do I have a faulty unit?
I have adjusted the fill level using the knob and the water seems to shut off at the appropriate level; however, when I check the level a little later (30 min-1 hour), the water level is at the top of the overflow pipe. Even if I adjust the water level to half of what it should normally be when I return a little later the water has risen substantially. Any advice?

The problem occured with my valve and I discovered that there was dirt below the diaphragm that caused the problem. The cover was removed and the area below the diaphragm flushed out and the diaphragm cleaned to remove dirt particles. The cover was replaced and the valve worked perfectly.

The only other thing might be that there might be something stuck in the filter, therefore causing obstruction for the water level. I would suggest that this be checked first. The filter is located below cover of the fill valve unit. If this does not work, you can return the unti to be replaced.

On the top of this unit you will see 2 arrows. One shows raise and other lower. There is a knob with a spring and if you turn the knob in the direction to raise it will raise the water line. If you turn it in the lower direction it will lower the water line.

This is most likely an adjustment for the water line. There is a knob with arrows located on this valve which allows you to raise or lower the water line. In this circumstance the water is not shutting off because it has not reached the water line required. You will need to adjust the knob to raise the water level and test to ensure it is working properly.

Question
Should this valve be so slow?
The valve seems to only allow a little trickle of water into the cistern, which means it takes a very long time to refill. Is this normal/correct?

Question
Water spraying out the sides of the valve
Had to pull the toilet to replace the wax seal. After re-attaching the tank and turning on the water there was water spraying out both sides of the valve as well as going into the fill tube. I installed this about a year ago and lost the instructions on how to adjust the flow. Hopefull it is just that.

There is a dial on the top of the unit with a spring below. You will also notice that on the top of the white valve there are arrows showing raise and lower. These determine the raising and the lowering of the water levels in a clockwise and counterclockwise direction.

Yes this is correct the distnce from the floor of the tank to the fill valve is a short distance. The installation would not be any different than any other type of fill valve. There is a knob on the top of the fill valve that allows you to raise or lower the water level.
