This bbq is an EZ-Bilt design, which means that there is some pre-assembly done at the factory. There are also relatively few parts and hardware, and the instructions are very intuitive. If you have moderate mechanical abilities it should take anywhere from 30 mins to an hour.

Question
Fire under BBQ
My bbq, was great till a fire destroyed all the wiring and netting on venturi tubes. What might have caused this? The BBQ was built by home depot, so I was surprised this happened.

Now I do not have a BBQ and do not know what to do.

The quality was great till that happened.

Thanks !

The burner was not installed properly or was shifted out of it's proper position.

sounds like a spider fire. spiders like the venturi tubes because they're nice and dark and it's a great place to make a web. The problem with that is that it tends to block the fuel and cause flash-back fires. As part of your regular maintenance, you should clean out the tubes on a regular basis with a venturi brush, available at Home Depot.

The screens we to block the air intakes and prevent spiders from getting in can shift, and bugs will crawl in the tubes. The screens are movable so that the tubes are easy to clean, but if you're not careful you can still get a fire. Just pull the screens back, clean the tubes, and replace the screens. if you live in a buggy area then you'll have to do that more often. REfer to the owners manual for full details on spider fires.

as for the damaged components, please call 1-800-265-2150 and we'll provide replacement parts free of charge. Keep in mind that this is not a warranty claim or quality issue, it's part of regular maintenance. we'll provide parts free of charge as a one-time courtesy. thanks

Question
flav-r-wave
How does flav-r-wave compare with ceramic or lava rock. I've always felt that there is not as much heat with the flav-r-wave panel. In the past I have removed it and replaced it with a lower screen to hold the ceramic briquettes. Are cast iron burners available for this model, again how does cast iron compare with stainless steel.

This barbecue has tons of heat and it is evenly distributed across grill. My old barbecue had cast iron burners and I have to say I seem to get more heat with less propane with stainless burners. My old barbecue had a drawer under the grill so I could clean it easily but this one has the flav-r-wave which incinerates most of the droppings and makes cleaning easy.

Flav-r-wave is superior to lava rock or ceramic. they absolutely get just as hot as ceramic or lava. The real benefits are as follows:

-they are uniform in shape and size, so they distribute heat more evenly than lava or ceramic
-they are designed to cover and protect the burner from acids in food so they will help prolong the life of the burner
-they are not porous, like lava rock, so they don't soak up grease and cause fires
-they last longer and require less maintenance than ceramic or lava
-they are much better at controlling flare-ups because there are no flat spots or valleys for grease to pool and ignite.

of course if you prefer ceramic you can use it safely, but only with the correct grate. don't put lava or ceramic on top of the flav-r-wave.

you can get cast iron burners as a replacement part but currently all broil-mate grills are made with stainless burners. stainless burners are the best for cooking performance and longevity, which is why the overwhelming majority of manufacturers use them. Cast iron burners will rust much more quickly, and they require more regular maintenance, such as drilling out rusted ports etc....

Question
model # 165154 for $199.00
Have read all reviews on this unit, sounds great. Can you get a cover lid stainless steel insert for this unit. I do like the higher model # 116554 becasue of the extras that it comes with but am questioning the 3 burner verus the dual H burner for performance. Is this the reason why that the reviews are 3.9 out of 5 ? Why is the lid on the lesser priced model hinged different than the higher model ? Thanks !

they are both good models. right now i don't know if its the same in calgary or not but here in ontario we are still selling the duel h burner ones. to my knowledge the 3 burner one is not being made right now and i would recommend it even if it was the 3 burner one. i have not seen any problems with the 3 burner when we sold them. the 199 is an excellent buy. if you want more info on either of them let me know i can get you everything

No, this unit is not available with stainless steel lid insert. Both this unit and the 116554 are the same size, with the same btu. The H burner cooks just as well as the 3 burner.
the only difference in hinging is the placement of the lid pins. they are both 'clamshell' lid designs and work equally well.

Question
Concerns about Broil Mate
I got the $199 on sale for $159. BBQ takes a long time. Meat dries out. I am thinking maybe the flames are not strong enough and not touching the meat at all. The temperature does get high very quickly. Not sure if I am doing somethin wrong. Maybe I should return this and get any other one? Please help

if the bbq heats up quickly, then you don't have an issue with your regulator.

also, the flames are not supposed to touch the meat, that would likely result in a burnt dinner. the steel heat plate, called a flav-r-wave is designed to get hot, and when the juices from your meat hit it they'll vapourise, and give you that smokey bbq flavour.

you can check out www.broilmatebbq.com for cooking tips, but the most common issue is preheating the bbq. Make sure that thing is good and hot before you put food on it. if you don't sear the outsides of the food that you're cooking, it can get dried out. if you're doing any type of cooking, get it to 500 before you put the food on. This platform is one of our most reliable, and definitely our best seller. you can also call us at 800.265.2150 for tips.

to me it sounds like you need to reset your regulator. to reset it disconnect your regulator hose from the tank and reconnect it. then turn the tank on slowly. turn it every 15 seconds then once you get it fully on it should reset your regular. i have sold prob 50 of those bbq and there's amazing. i would recommend it to anyone. try that. if it doesn't work try phoning broil mate. they have trouble shooting people there that can help you fix your problem hopefully. their out of waterloo ont i think. let me know if this helps at all

Question
Warming Rack Problem
I bought and assembled this BBQ 2 weeks ago, and LOVE IT!

The only problem I am having is with the warming rack. I don’t know if I'm not placing it properly (kind of hard not to!) in the BBQ or not, but after opening/closing the lid a few times, the warming rack falls out of the holes and onto my food on the grill.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

You have to center the rack by bending the mounting wires to suit. If one side is bent out too far out it will push the rack out of the hole. If there is not enough spring pressure the rack will just fall out when moved side to side.

On the average three to five years life expectancy of his item in our climate, brass or stainless brushes won't change a thing for you. Concentrate on cooking and keep the cleaning part simple.
