Figuring out the length of cable that you will need will vary depending on how much snow you get. If you get more snow then you may want to make your "V's" a little tighter so there is more heat on the roof. The V's should be about 2 feet apart and they should go at least 1 ft up on the roof. Please see the attached image. I hope this helps.
