Yes, you can install Allure over existing vinyl floor. You don’t have to pay for an expensive removal and remediating job. allure is the perfect answer. Any loose or damaged tiles should be patched prior to installing allure over the old floor. Never sand old vinyl floors from any floor manufacturer, if you think the floor may be over 20 years old.

allure is waterproof so it can be installed directly over concrete floors in the basement. If your concrete floor has any bumps or burrs of concrete sticking up, simply knock them off with a hammer and chisel. If the concrete floor has any larger dips or holes, you may want to apply a floor leveler to fill those areas, depending on the size and shape of the imperfections. Concrete floors do emit moisture or hydro static pressure which could effect the performance of the floor. Consider putting down a moisture/vapor barrier first.

Allure can be installed over Radiant heated floors (do not turn heat above 85 degrees F)

The type of transition strip you would need depends on what type of flooring is going in your hall. If your hall is also going to be Allure, you can order an Allure transition strip from Halstead New England. Please call (866) THD-TILE to order. This phone number can also be used to ask more specific questions.

Question
Installing under a toilet?
We are planning on installing Allure in a powder room. Should we install it before we put the toilet in (and screw the toilet through the flooring) or should we install the toilet first and cut the Allure around the toilet? If we cut around the toilet how much of a gap should be left? We're planning on using the Cork if that information is helpful. TIA.

It will be nicer if you install the allure first before the toilet. If you install the toilet first, you should leave a 1/8” gap and use a silicone caulk around the toilet.

Question
Is it a good product on an uneven ground?

Because of allure’s flexibility the planks can be installed over uneven sub-floors. Subfloors should be flat within a tolerance of 1/8” (3mm) over a span of 10 feet. Any unevenness over 1/8” (3mm) must be sanded down or filled with a floor leveler.

Can you install over tiles or laminate?

Allure can be installed over most existing floors including wood, vinyl, linoleum, ceramic tiles and concrete. All subfloors must be sound, solid and have little flexibility. Tolerance is 3/16” over 8’.

- Wood subfloors: including Hardwoods, Plywood, OSB, Luan, Particleboard & Chipboard are approved, but must be sturdy flat and have little flexibility.
- Quarry Tile, Terrazzo and Ceramic Tile: Allure can be installed over these floors but any embossing or grout lines exceed 1/8” you must level the floor first with a cementitious/leveling patching compound.
