Question
Do these need an insulated box when used in a basement ceiling?
The ceiling has been insulated with Roxul Safe'n'Sound but removed from the areas where the lights will be positioned.

An insulated box is only required in an area where insulation is applied (ie-attic). If you plan on using any form on an insulating material, then it is strongly advised to use an insulating box.

An insulated box is only used when insulation is used in the area where the fixture is installed.
Since you do have a type of insulation within your ceiling, although its been removed from the light fixture area, it would be advisable to use an IC box for preventative measure (sparks from loose connections, etc)

All lights can be used with a dimmer. The main issue will be to determine whether you require a "Line Voltage" or "Low Voltage" dimmer.
Since this recess unit is 120V or "Line Voltage" you will require a standard or "Live Voltage" dimmer.

the lights can be installed in a drop ceiling, but please consult with building codes in your area.

Insulation box
Is the box the metal one that is included with the set? and this is to prevent the wires from arcing or does this require the purchase of something else? Is the sole purpose to prevent sparking? I don't think these lights would give off enough heat to start a fire would they?
