this product does have to be plugged in via 120VAC outlet. The lights are wired in series and have a watertight connection, this way you can remove or add more lights as you wish. the light is controlled by a photocell. when the photocell is in the sun, the lights are off, when it gets dark, they turn on automatically. the device functions very similarly to the standard solar lights.

Yes, you can add more lights to your existing set, but here's the catch. You can't just buy another set of just 8 lights. You need to spend another $49.99 to buy a complete second kit, at which point you just don't use the second transformer. It's too bad you couldn't buy just the lights and save the money of the transformer.

I guess you can keep the extra transformer in case your existing one dies on you.

The manual says up to 16- so two packages in total.
You can also remove the use of the solar sensor by just taking it out of the string of wires, which is nice to put it onto a switch.

Question
Is there a way to dull the intensity of the lights?
I installed the lights verticallly on my deck steps so that they point towards someone coming up the steps (ie not down into the ground). As a person walks up the steps, the intensity from the lights is blinding. Is there something I can put over the light to reduce this? Perhaps a resin I could apply to the lights? What I want is just a dull glow so that the steps are visible. Do these lights operate with a dimmer switch?

Thanks,

Rob

the company does not sell anything official. however, to diminish the intensity of the light, you can put "animal screen" over it. Animal screen is sold in the patio door aisle, its a thicker screen that is harder to rip.

They are individually plugged into each other. In the event that one does go out then you just unplug it from the lights on either side and replace it. Very easy!
