I am looking for a television stand that is at least 48 inches wide, and can sustain a substantial weight load on the top. Is there information on the load that this (or any other television stand) can bear?

I can't tell you exactly how much this stand will hold but remember that it is solid wood and not particle or press board. We just assembled it this morning and feel that it as solid as the custom made solid wood stand we were considering from a local mennonite furniture maker. Pretty good quality and on sale right now for $188.00.

This unit is rated for up to a 50 inch TV and up to 135 lbs. I have a 52 inch LCD which weighs 75 lbs on mine and it looks good and is very stable.

This stand does come with a set of easily understood instructions with good diagrams. I do recommend that 2 people assemble though as it is quite difficult to hold some of the pieces together while inserting screws, etc if you are alone. Great stand!

The only holes on mine that weren't drilled were for the magnetic door latches but that wasn't hard to figure out. Other then that you shouldn't have to drill anything...

Didn't have that problem with mine. I did drill a couple of holes though because I only installed one of the drawers as I wanted more room in the center for my equipment.

The centre shelves are about 18 inches wide - plenty for my big home theatre player and the ones on either side behind the glass doors are about 12 inches wide.
