How many hours do you think a 120 Gal propane tank would last

The unit will run for 100 hours on average, the unit even if it is not under load, runs at 3600rpm, there is no idler or economy swithc on these like gasoline generators. All manufacturers when they say it will run for X amount of hours is at 50% load, so in your case 3500W. FYI a toaster draws 1500W, coffee machine 1000 - 1500W, a microwave draws 1500W, hair blower draws 1500W, lights are now not drawing much 10 - 23W (fluorescent - spiral type), a computer draws 200W, oven 5000W, stove 1500W to 4000W each., hot water tank - electric 3000W to 8000W, sump pump 1000W, refrigerator 800W, freezer 600W, AC forget about it!! unless it is a window shaker - it draws 2000W, compressor depends on HP, anything that as an element draws a lot of power. 1HP = 0.746W

120 Gal of propane tank would last to supply what a BBQ, a generator, a stove?

FYI - You can find the amount of BTU there is in a liter of propane and you can see usually on whatevever is using the propane how much it uses or produces.

At 1/2 load (1/2 power) this unit will consume 1 gallon/hr so you figure it will run about 120 hours. Keep in mind at night you will be using less of the generator since your lights will probably be off etc.

BBQ tank will last for 6 hours (20lb) on average, but you nee a regulator!! 11inch w.c or if you prefer 1psi.

Larger tanks are preferrable definitely, I have never seen one with a smaller tank than 100gal.

1) Does the 7KW unit come as a Natural Gas 2) In the case of "No Hydro" can I start these units from inside the home? Remote readout ? Etc.?

It comes as Natural Gas but also comes with the Propane conversion peices. Easy to switch over. The unit starts automatically after 10 seconds of no hydro. You dont need to do a thing but wait. Im not sure about the cold but you can get a battery heater which I might do for next year.

1. Yes the unit comes pre-set out of our factory at natural gas. If you needed to switch it over to propane it's as easy as flipping a switch (see the owner's manual for directions).

2. No this unit is not compatable with our advanced remote monitor. The "basic" remote monitor can't remote start and does not have a digital readout like the "advanced" monitor. Our 8kW models on up are compatable with these monitors.

3. It's not the propane you need to worry about when it gets real cold it's the oil. If where you live gets cold I would suggest purchasing the cold weather kit that goes with this unit specifically (model 5865).

** note that both of the wireless monitors and the cold weather kits are not yet available online (but should be by the end of February 2011). Until then I would visit your local Home Depot and they will be able to special order these for you.

Question
how is power supplied transfer switch

The power comes from your panel (grid) or your generator when it is running. The transfer switch always monitors the grid and she's waiting for a power outage or a dip for more than 10 sec to start the generator and kick in.

If you have Nexus, it needs to be installed in between your meter and panel and if you have an EZ-Switch, it is installed beside and is being fed by your panel with a breaker of the proper amperage. It is mentioned in the installation manual or online on Generac website

answer 2
A Generac Home Standby generator continuously monitors your incoming utility voltage. (and is subsequently powered by the incoming utility when it is present) When it detects that your utility power is interrupted for 10 seconds or more the generator automatically starts up and powers up the transfer switch. From that point the transfer switch automatically disconnects the main utility line and safely connects a new power line from the generator. Power is is then restored to your home within seconds.

A generator of 7kW from Generac is able to push continuously 7kW so, the continuous it can push on 120Vac is (7000 / 120 = 58.3A) and on the 240Vac it can push continuously 29.16A

So to answer your question, here is the calculations 25A - 240V = 6000W, then 120V - 20A = 2400W and then 4 x 15A x 120Vac = 7200W

Remember that even if you have a 15A breaker, it does not mean it is drawing that amount, since breakers are not made smaller and also not everything will run at the same time either. The unit is likely to be able to push 20 - 30% more for surge when stuff kicks in, so again it depends on what you are powering.

Hope it helps

If you use your CorePower in an off-grid application it will void the 2-year warranty associated with the unit as they are not built for this type of application. We do; however, have a 6kW "EcoGen" that is built for off-grid applications and will hold its warranty in such a situation. The model number is 5818 and is available to purchase on HomeDepot.ca.

It depends on the location of your generator and how far the gas and electrical lines have to be run. I would contact your nearest Generac Dealer by visiting our website and Generac.com and at the far bottom left clicking "Find a Dealer" and following the prompts.
