This paint is excellent for use in a cold basement, as it will keep the walls dry and waterproofed. It has a mildew resistant flat finish that is 100% Styrene Acrylic. It also has the Nanoguard Technology, which enhances the paints performance by filling in the voids created by the larger paint particles, and also relates to preventing water penetration.

Question
What preparation is required on a old rough basement wall for this paint
Wall has been painted before and repaired and has parging separating from foundation in places. Where the parging is off the rough unpainted foundation is exposed. There looks to be some small dark areas the could be mold. The wall is dry now however in the spring when it becomes damp/wet again I don't want the paint to start pelling.

Thanks

The preparation steps for Behr No. 87505 are as follows:
New concrete must cure for a minimum of 30 days. Test for loose, flaking concrete by pressing a piece of masking or cellophane tape at various places, then pull it off with an abrupt action. If the tape does not pull the concrete from the surface, it can be painted. If the existing concrete is removed, the loose concrete should be removed down to a sound substrate. All holes or cracks must be properly patched with a fast setting hydraulic cement. Remove mildew stains with Behr No. 62 Premium Mildew Stain Remover. Follow all label instructions. All surfaces must be clean and free of dirt, dust, efflorescence and oil. Clean surface with Behr No. 991 Concrete and Masonry Cleaner/Degreaser. Follow all label instructions Behr No. 87505 Basement & Masonry Waterproofing Paint provides best results when applied to bare or untreated surfaces. Previously painted surfaces in good, re-paintable condition may be painted with Behr No. 87505, however, Behr will not guarantee the results. Test for loose, flaking paint by pressing a piece of masking or cellophane tape at various places, then pull it off with an abrupt action. If the tape does not pull the paint from the surface, it can be painted. If the existing paint is removed, the loose paint should be removed down to a sound substrate by wire brushing or sanding. For Interior or Exterior application; remove deteriorated coating prior to application. Follow all label instructions. Follow all preparation instructions under “New or Unpainted Surfaces” above.

answer 1
Behr No. 875 Basement & Masonry Waterproofing Paint is mold/mildew resistant, meaning that the paint will not allow mold/mildew to penetrate the paint film. Mold/mildew may still grow on the surface of the paint, in which case a water and bleach solution mixed at a 1:1 ratio will remove the mold/mildew.

The recommended application method, apply using a high quality 1/2"-3/4" nap roller, 4" nylon/polyester brush or an airless sprayer @ 2,200-3,200 PSI using a .023-.025 spray tip. Also apply at a spread rate of 75-100 sq. ft. (7-9 m2) per gallon on rough surfaces and 100-125 sq. ft. (9-12 m2) per gallon on smooth surfaces. Two coats minimum are required.

Behr's Basement & Masonry Waterproofing Paint withstands 10 PSI of water pressure.

We would recommend asking the manufacturer of the insulation if the insulation can be applied over a waterproofing paint designed to withstand 10 PSI of water pressure.

Question
What kind of prep work is involved and how long to let it dry?
I am wondering if I have to scrub the floor ahead of time plus leave it dry prior to applying the paint and then leave air dry or no one walking on it for a week?

Behr's Basement & Masonry Waterproofing Paint is not suitable for floor applications. You would want to use a waterproofing paint with foot traffic resistance for best results.
