it is only necessary to install an Insulated Box (or I/C) where fiberglass insulation is primarly used (ie-attic space).
If installing a recessed fixture on a main floor of a home (between the main floor and bedroom levels) it is not necessary to use I/C units.

The introduction of I/C boxes technically eliminated the necessary use of a vapor barries. But, a vapor barriers DOES NOT make any unit airtight.
Only an Airtight I/C unit is truly airtight

Question
Additional installation instructions?
I have recently purchased the Nextlite 6-pack 4" recessed lights and bought the VHG 4I01-00 cans to install these in an insulated ceiling. I have been unable to locate Nextlite on the internet and wish to find some instructions on how to install the lights using the boxes. Are there any additional resources available for this?
Thanks

Firstly-is always recommended to consult your local building codes, and to hire a certified electrician.
Now, if you are installing yourself its always recommended to install the unit flush to the bottom of the rafter. This allows you the clearance to install the drywall/gypsum board.
With regards to the vapor barrier-from my understanding there is only one type of vapor barrier available at home depot, and it is suitable for the job.

Question
When we purchased the VHG 4101-00 boxes and the 4" par 20 recessed lights the sales person at Home Depot said it could be installed in our ceiling-
which is approximately 2" thick made up of 1/2" drywall, plus plaster and 3/8" plaster board. will the light be able to be fastened properly into the box with a ceiling of this thickness. I now see that the literature shows it is for new construction.
