The "close to ceiling" installation is approximately 13" from the ceiling to bottom of light globe. I have low ceilings & found these fans perfect.

Yes I installed in a hugger format only thing I had to do was use tape to hold philips screws in driver to lock the base to ceiling fixture.

Question
There's no room for remote receiver in the canopy due to big ball/downrod piece
There seems to be no way to fit the remote receiver included with the product inside the canopy with all the wires and the mounting plate protrusion for the ball/downrod piece taking up all that room. Since this is a 'close to the ceiling' installation, is there a mounting plate without this protrusion or a much smaller receiver?

I too had trouble with the "close to ceiling" installation of two of these fans. Slide the receiver into the ceiling mount and tape it up temporarily while attaching wires & THEN attach mount to ceiling & slide that ball in. Very carefully remove the tape. It is VERY difficult to tuck all the wires in but it is possible. If you have someone to help, you shouldn't have too much of a problem, but I managed alone. BUT beware that the light will be very dim. If you want a brighter light then forgo the remote and install a dimmer switch at the wall as I did (yes, after all the hassle of putting that receiver in & installing the entire fan, I took it down & removed the receiver!) Good luck!

put the receiver in the ceiling mount BEFORE mounting it and tape it up while you first wire up everything, then mount ceiling bracket, slide in ball & CAREFULLY remove the tape. Tuck in all the wires & you're good to go but beware that the remote receiver makes the light very dim for some reason. I took it out & use a dimmer switch on the wall instead.
