This humidifier incorporates a restrictor which meters the amount of water supplied to the unit. In a average home the unit will use 37 US Gallons (31 Imp. Gallons, 140 Litres) per 24 hrs of operation. NOTE: Your furnace will not run continuously 24 hrs a day – in an average home the 37 gallons will be used over a 3 day period.

The maximum indoor relative humidity level should be set according to the outside temperature, to prevent excesive condensation on the windows.
In Newmarket 30% should be fine for Jan/ Feb. And before and after the coldest part of winter I would put 35~40%.
Health Canada's website says:
Rules of Thumb
To prevent window condensation during the heating season, the recommended indoor RH is 30 per cent to 50 per cent. When it is below -10°C (14°F) outdoors, recommended indoor RH is 30 per cent.

answer 2
Unfortunately, the humidity level you set in your home is dependent on the outdoor temperature and since that is constantly changing, so should your indoor humidity. At 24 degrees inside you could set your humidity level at 30-35% without fogging your windows if the outside temperature is around 0 C. As the temperature drops outside, the temperature of the windows on the inside of your home also drops. Therefore you will need to reduce your humidifer setting to prevent excess moisture formation on your windows.

Question
Purchased a Model 6000 Humidifier last season. It worked great.
This season it worked fine for 4 weeks, then developed a leak. All the water lines appear fine and not leaking. The water is flowing from the body of the unit. I cannot find anything in your brochure indicating trouble shooting matters. I have since shut down the unit and will await any response. Otherwise I will contact our local Home Depot.

Make sure the filter housing is "connected" properly, and also that the filter sits in the housing as it should. If not, water will leak out.

answer 2
If the unit is operating properly, then the water never actually touches the housing and simply flows through the evaporator pad assembly and out the drain/funnel at the bottom of the housing. If you've got a leak I suspect one of two basic issues:

1) water is flowing into the housing faster than it can flow out. Check your drain hose... is it plugged or does it have any kinks?

2) the water isn't flowing into the evaporator pad assembly like it should be and some/all is going directly into the housing (which isn't sealed and will leak). Did the water tube fall off the evaporator pad assembly? Is water somehow leaking out of the evaporator pad assembly?

Unfortunately this unit will not work with your furnace as the unit is heat activated and with the oil it will not get hot enough to activated the unit. It is recommended to use the AK850 which has a stainless steel drum style.

Question
Is 3" difference in height from duct to duct a problem?
I have just installed the 6000 unit and the LED light will not go on for the unit to start up. water is getting to the console but not being taken in. I have a difference of 3" in height diffence between the unit on the intake duct and the damper on the furnace. I have followed the instruction for fault finding, but still no luck. I have read the part that says the hose should be parallel, is 3 " going to make that much difference?

Hi ColinM,
It is recommended to use hard ducting – use hard ducting for any elbows – take the most
direct route when ducting. If this doesn't work I would suggest phoning customer service at (800) 465-7300 to troubleshoot the issue. I hope this helps.

In my Wait 6000 takes some time for the unit to open the water valve (you hear the solenoid clicking and see the LED come on) after the fan started blowing air. It can also depend on the inlet air temperature; if it is not hot enough yet, the unit won't start. Wait (no pun intended) until the incoming air is hot.
