Chamberlain OEM Remotes (i.e. 955D) will not work with Genie branded products, however the CLICKER brand Universal Remote (KLIK1U / KLIK1C) will work perfectly.

If you are having compatibility issues apart from purchasing a new Chamberlain Garage Door opener, we recommend the 955CD Universal Replacement Radio Kit, sold at Home Depot. The Kit essentially replaces the radio currently used in the Garage Door Opener and includes a new transmitter. It is capable of 8 transmitters and one Keyless Entry.... any Chamberlain products with a "CD" at the end of the model number will be compatible with this Radio / Receiver Kit.

Thank you for your question. This remote will not work with product manufactured before 2005. A compatible model would be our 950C or you could go with our Universal Clicker Remote Control KLIK1C.

You can purchase a remote that was made prior to 2005. On the packaging this is marked with a yellow band and states "compatible with units made prior to 2005". 950C or 953C will be compatible. Alternatively, you can purchase a Clicker Universal Transmitter (KLIK1C) at Home Depot. This will work with most manufactures including Chamberlain, Craftsman and LiftMaster and the appropriate codes for older models.

Incompatibility can be due to a couple issues.
Please check the colour of the Smart Button located on the radio (antenna) side of the Garage Door Opener. If it is purple, then the visor 1 button remote should be a Black "button" not grey.
You can also have too many remote controls programmed into the unit and are experiencing a memory issue. This can be corrected by erasing the memory and reprogramming the remotes you want to use....
If you cannot correct the issue and the remotes are not synchronizing please contact our customer technical support for further assistance.... 800.654.4736

Question
Remote Signal Range Problems
My HD200CD remote will only work if it is literally one inch away from the back of the unit. My two universal remotes have the same problem. All of the remotes are new or have new batteries, so dead batteries does not seem to be the problem. The wall mounted door control works fine. Is this most likely a smart board issue, or a defective antenna?

Hi Aonymous! Yes you can use multiple remote controls with a single Chamberlain garage door opener. You will want to make sure that the remote you purchase is compatible with your Chamberlain garage door opener. The 950CD is compatible with Chamberlain garage door openers with a purple learn button. If your garage door opener does not have a purple learn button you may want to consider using a Chamberlain KLIK1U universal remote control. This will work with all Chamberlain garage door openers as well as other brands.

Hi Anonymous! The Chamberlain model 950CB remote is no longer offered. But can be replaced with the latest Chamberlain Clicker model KLIK1U. The Chamberlain Clicker is compatible with all Chamberlain garage door openers manufactured after 1993 and can be used to operate two different doors. You can find more information on the Chamberlain Clicker KLIK1U on our website using the link below:
