Safe and Sound is not deigned to act as thermal insulation and therefore does not list a "R" value

answer 2
Hi Christy
Safe 'n' Sound is designed for interior partitions where no R-value is required. As such Roxul does not track this number. If your application requires an R-value, such as an exterior wall or attic, then it is recommended to use Flexibatt. I hope this helps.

Yes. To increase the level of sound proofing strap the ceiling with resiliant channel. This will help flatten out the variations in the ceiling and increase the level of sound prooding.

The defference between the batts of insulation is the widths. Roxal or Fiberglass for steel stud batts are wider to fill the cavity in the steel studs.

The only difference between the two are the sizing as one is made for the spacing of wood studs and the other for steel studs but their properties are the same. I hope this helps.

Hi Robz,
Unfortunately I cannot provide you with the sound rating for this as the rating depends on the application that it is being used in. To get more information you can phone 1-800-265-6878 or visit http://www.roxul.com/sw18169.asp. I hope this helps.

No normal fiberglass insulation is not completely flame resistant. The flame spread differs by type of insulation and after a particular amount of time the fire will burn through the insulation. I hope this helps.

Question
Do I need to cover the insulation up?
I am planning to insulate the interior walls in my furnace room with this insulation. The interior walls to be covered are 2x4s, 16 inch on center. My question is, should I/do I need to cover the insulation up with drywall or can I leave the insulation bare without covering it up?

It is best to cover the insulation and apply a coat of fire tape (paper tape with a single coat of compound) on all seams. The additional 1/2" of drywall will increase the fire rating and ensure there is less dust in the furnace room that can find it's way into the furnace filter.

Question
Roxul safe'n sound in T-Bar Ceiling - How to install?
I own a house with a suite upstairs and a suite in the basement. Both are great, but the sound travels from the basement upwards - voices and TV are the main concerns. If I use Roxul Safe'n Sound, how do I get it in and keep it in the basement ceiling that is made of t-bar and ceiling tiles?
There must be some sort of mechanism for doing this. Any ideas?
Thank you

Question
how do you insulate between your floor joists when they are not 16" on centre?
How would you get the insulation to stay up because it would not fit snugly it would just fall to the floor.
